《20世纪中国电影理论文选》是罗艺军主编的《中国电影理论文选》（1920--1989）的增订版，2003年由中国电影出版社出版。增订版将年代的下限从20世纪80年代末延伸到20世纪末，概括了近一个世纪中国大陆电影理论之精华。这是中国大陆第一部系统性的电影理论文选。该书以历史唯物主义和马克思主义美学为指导，力求包括中国电影理论史上有学术价值之各种观点的论述，并能显示各个不同历史时期电影思潮嬗变之轨迹。

An Anthology of Chinese Film Theory - 20th Century, published by China Film Press in 2003, is the revised version of Chinese Film Theory: An Anthology (1920-1989) edited by Luo Yijun. With the ending year being extended to the end of the 20th century, the revised version includes the best film theories in mainland China in almost one century. As the first systematic anthology of Chinese film theory in mainland China, the book, with the guidance of historical materialism and Marxist aesthetics, aims to collect various discussions of academic value in the history of Chinese film theories and reflect changes of film thought in different period of history.

该作品按历史顺序分成三部分。第一部分1920年—1949年；第二部分1950年—1976年；第三部分1977年—2000年。该文选入选之论著，主要着眼于其学术价值，作为特定电影思潮之代表性和社会影响，并适当参考作者在中国电影历史发展中的影响。每篇选文之前，冠以简短编者前言，包括作者简介，文章产生的背景、影响及内容提要。 

Based on a chronological sequence, this book comprises three parts. The first part includes representative Chinese film theories between 1920 and 1949, the second part between 1950 and 1976, and the third part between 1977 and 2000. The main factors that decide whether an article can be included in this anthology are its academic value, its social influence and representativeness as specific film thought, and the author’s contribution to the development of Chinese film history. Every article in this book is preceded by a brief introduction written by the editor, which includes an introduction about the author, the background when the article was composed, and the influence and abstract of the article.

改革开放以来，中国的电影、电视有了飞速发展，观众数量急剧增长，数以百计的大学增设了电影、电视专业，因而该作品正好适应了社会上的迫切需求。同时，拓宽了中国电影研究领域，进一步推动了中国电影理论的发展。
